I Slept in Chengdu’s Viral 24-Hour Spa: My Complete Guide & Honest Review

If you’ve ever come across China’s 24-hour spas online and became obsessed with the concept, you’re not alone. To be honest, these spas are one of the main reasons I even became interested in visiting China in the first place — feel free to call me spa-obsessed, because I really am. I love a good spa anywhere in the World, but the idea of somewhere that’s open 24/7 completely won me over and I just knew I had to experience it for myself.

So I started planning a trip to China (best decision ever, by the way) and was hell-bent on finding the viral Chengdu 24-hour spa I kept seeing on Instagram. It wasn’t an easy task, and I got pretty frustrated by how little information there was online about it.

So here I am now, ready to give you all the details you need to know before you go.

What’s With China’s 24-Hour Spas? (And Why They’re So Popular)

There are so many unique things to experience in China, and after visiting 57 countries, I can honestly say it’s one of the most unique countries I’ve ever travelled to.

Even though the country is packed with fascinating History, culture and incredible sights, one of the coolest things I experienced there was its 24-hour spa culture. If you’re wondering what a 24-hour spa in China actually is, it’s nothing like a typical Western spa.

This place in Chengdu is a must visit

These places exist all over China and they are way more than just spas. They’re often gigantic wellness centres with several floors filled with everything from hot pools and saunas to entertainment areas, free food and even sleeping areas.

Does it sound like a very touristy thing to do? You’d actually be very mistaken to assume that. In fact, I was one of very few tourists in the 24-hour spas I visited in China. It was fascinating to see how local Chinese people use these places to hang out with friends and family — it felt like such an immersive experience, as weird as that might sound.

The Viral 24-Hour Spa I Visited in Chengdu

Even though there are 24-hour spas all over China, one of them really stands out online. A specific spa in Chengdu has gone viral on TikTok and Instagram after several content creators posted about it, and that’s actually how I found out about it — and I’m so glad I did.

Call me silly, but this spa was one of the main reasons I even added Chengdu to my China itinerary. If you’re thinking of visiting too, this place is an absolute must for your Chengdu itinerary — especially if you’re spa-obsessed like me.

It’s no coincidence that it went viral: it’s genuinely stunning. But beyond how Instagrammable it is, it’s also packed with things to do across multiple floors, from relaxation areas to entertainment spaces and everything in between.

How to Find the Spa

Understanding where this place is and how to get there wasn’t as easy as I hoped.

When I was planning my trip to China, I kept researching it but kept running into different names for what seemed like the same spa. On top of that, as you probably already know, Google Maps is basically useless in China. Trying to find it there was a complete waste of time — something I initially refused to accept because I was a very optimistic (and slightly naive) first-time planner for China.

If you’re planning your first trip to China and don’t want to let go of Google Maps, I get it — I felt exactly the same. But Google Maps really is useless in China, so my best advice is to accept that fact as soon as possible and start getting used to Amap instead.

Now I know better: if you’re travelling in China, you can pretty much forget Google Maps altogether. Your best friend will be Amap, and that’s where I finally managed to find the correct location of this spa. So basically, it’s called Qianshen Holiday Hotel (Chengdu Branch) on Amap.

How to Get There

Public transportation in China is very efficient and reliable, but I have to admit that I mostly got around by taxi. This is highly unusual for me as a budget traveller, and it felt so strange ordering taxis everywhere — but it was so worth it.

China’s alternative to Uber is called DiDi, and I fell in love with it as soon as I arrived. I had heard great things about it before, but honestly, it was even better than I expected. Not only does it work extremely well — like most things in China, to be fair — but it’s also incredibly cheap. I genuinely don’t think I’ve found taxi prices like that anywhere else in the world, not even in ultra-budget countries like Vietnam.

I was constantly taking DiDi rides for around €1–€2 and kept thinking: how is this even possible?

So my advice is simple: don’t overthink transport here. Just take a DiDi to Qianshen Holiday Hotel (Chengdu Branch), and you’ll be dropped right by the spa entrance.

Arriving at the Spa: What to Expect?

I was so curious about what this experience would be like, and I kept wondering what to expect beforehand.

I can honestly say this place delivered way above my expectations from the very first second. As soon as I got out of my DiDi and started walking towards the entrance, a staff member immediately came over to help me with my backpack and open the door for me.

I could tell straight away that this was a place with an incredibly high level of service.

The level of service in this spa is insane

As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by the reception staff who explain everything you need to know. They didn’t speak English, but it wasn’t an issue at all because they had printed information in English ready to show me, which made everything easy to understand.

After getting the essential details, I handed over my backpack for storage. They gave me a numbered tag so I could prove it was mine when picking it up later — which made the whole process feel very organised and secure.

I was then given a wristband for my locker, and it was time to head downstairs and get changed.

Just taking the elevator downstairs proved to me once again that this place has outstanding service. I didn’t even have time to press the button before a staff member was already there to do it for me.

As soon as I got downstairs, another staff member was waiting to take my shoes, store them, and give me a fresh pair of slippers to use during my stay. I honestly felt bad for him and his nose — those sneakers had been through a lot after all the walking I had been doing around Chengdu. But the service was genuinely appreciated.

Then they lead you to the changing rooms, where you’re met by friendly staff members once again — honestly, it was so impressive to see how many people were working there — and they show you to your locker.

You’ll get towels and some cute but not-so-flattering pyjamas to wear, so the only thing you need to bring with you is your swimwear. All the amenities you need for showering are provided, as well as makeup removers, cotton pads and even creams.

Honestly, a place providing all of this would cost you a fortune in Europe… but that’s not the case in China.

What Will You Find Inside?

The place is huge, and if you’re planning to stay there for several hours, you really don’t need to worry about getting bored.

Besides the big central pool you’ll see in all the viral reels about this spa, there are also several smaller pools with different properties. One of them even had some kind of electrical current running through the water… I didn’t fully understand the concept at first and honestly wondered if it was even safe, but after trying it, it felt surprisingly good. But if you want something a bit more low-key, there’s a pool with herbal-infused water right next to it.

This area is open from 8:00 to midnight and there’s a DJ from 20:00 to 23:00

Besides hanging out in the pools, you can head up the stairs and find several saunas. My favourite was the one with small heated stones you can lie down on — how can something so simple, feel so relaxing?

If this was all it offered, this spa could easily be compared to many places in the Western world. What makes it special is that, beyond the pools and saunas, these Chinese 24-hour spas have so much more to offer.

On the upper floor, you can find a beautifully decorated library where you can spend some quiet time. All the books are in Chinese, so it might be worth bringing your own if you don’t speak the language but still want to relax there for a while.

Otherwise, you can head to the entertainment areas, where you’ll find private corners with PS5 setups — not really my thing, but I’m sure many people would absolutely love it.

If you think all of this is impressive, just wait until you hear about the food areas in that place. I loved the whole experience, but the food that’s included is what made it a 10/10 for me.

Food at Chengdu’s 24-Hour Spa: What’s Included?

Honestly, even if no food was included in the already very impressive price (keep reading to find out how much it costs), this place would still be so worth a visit. The fact that you also get complimentary food just takes it to another level.

Here’s a list of what you can enjoy for free inside:

  • Snacks by the pool: buns, popcorn, fruit, etc
  • Ice cream
  • 24/7 fruit buffet
  • Several fridges with soft drinks and beverages
  • Breakfast (from 7:00 to 10:00 am)

Sleeping in a 24-Hour Spa in China: What Is It Really Like?

A spa like this, with so many pools, saunas, relaxation areas and even a 24/7 fruit buffet, is already enough to put many Western spas to shame. But there’s one thing that makes it truly unique: you can actually sleep there.

To be honest, I struggled to believe it at first. Even though I’d read countless reviews from people who had spent the night there, it still felt too good to be true. What do you mean I can save the cost of a night’s accommodation and literally sleep at a spa?

Well… yes. In China, you actually can.

I have to admit I was a little nervous about this. I arrived at around 10 p.m. with no accommodation booked for the night, but there was still a little voice in the back of my mind asking: What if I can’t actually sleep here? What if all the sleeping spaces are already taken?

Thankfully, I can confirm that sleeping there is not only possible, but it was a much better experience than I expected.

After spending some time relaxing in the pools, I changed into my pyjamas and took the elevator upstairs. As soon as I stepped out, a staff member immediately understood that I wanted to stay the night. Without me even having to ask, he led me to a cinema room filled with fully reclining sofas. I picked one that was available, he wrote down my sofa number on a list, and just like that… I had somewhere to sleep for the night.

I genuinely couldn’t believe how easy the whole process was.

Of course, you’re sleeping in the same room as other guests, but as a solo budget traveller, that’s something I’m very used to. After sleeping on airport floors over the years, having a fully reclining sofa and even my own power outlet right beside me honestly felt like luxury.

The most impressive part? There are even private sleeping pods available.

I only discovered them the following morning while exploring the spa, and I have to admit I was a little jealous. From what I understood, they’re available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you’d like one, it’s worth arriving earlier in the day to claim it before they fill up.

Looking back, spending the night here was one of my favourite parts of the whole experience. It’s not every day you get to swap a hotel room for a spa, and somehow it worked even better than I could have imagined.

How Long Can You Stay at a 24-Hour Spa?

These places are called 24-hour spas for a reason: they literally never close.

As unbelievable as it sounds, it’s actually true. Before visiting, I kept wondering whether I was missing some important piece of information and whether I’d somehow be thrown out onto the street in the middle of the night. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all.

You really can stay there for 24 consecutive hours if you want to—and honestly, I think you should.

Personally, I arrived at around 10 p.m. and left the following morning. While I absolutely loved the experience, I do regret not spending more time there. The only reason I didn’t stay longer was because I hadn’t planned enough time in Chengdu.

If you’re a spa lover like me, I’d recommend setting aside an entire day for this experience. The place is enormous, and between the pools, saunas, relaxation areas, food, entertainment spaces and even the opportunity to spend the night there, it’s surprisingly easy to fill 24 hours without ever getting bored.

One thing I wish I’d known beforehand is that you’re allowed to leave and come back once during your 24-hour stay. If you fancy exploring Chengdu for a few hours or grabbing something outside, simply let the reception staff know before you leave. They’ll note it down and allow you back in when you return, so you don’t have to spend the entire 24 hours inside if you don’t want to.

How Much Does Chengdu’s 24-Hour Spa Cost?

I’ve travelled to 57 countries, and I can genuinely say this was one of the best value-for-money experiences I’ve ever had. When you consider everything that’s included, the price feels almost too good to be true.

Here’s what you’ll pay:

  • 298 yuan for a 24-hour entrance ticket
  • OPTIONAL: 298 yuan for the food package, which includes lunch and dinner
  • Additional charges apply if you’d like to book a massage or other spa treatments

I actually decided to skip the food package, and I don’t regret it at all. There was more than enough complimentary food to keep me happy, from snacks and the 24/7 fruit buffet to soft drinks and ice cream. On top of that, the complimentary breakfast the following morning was much better than I expected and left me completely full before heading back out to explore Chengdu. Unless you’re set on having lunch and dinner there, I personally don’t think the food package is essential.

My Honest Review: Is Chengdu’s 24-Hour Spa Worth It?

There are so many viral videos of this spa online that, deep down, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is it actually worth the hype? It’s easy for places to look amazing on Instagram but end up feeling underwhelming in real life. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. In my opinion, this place is more than worth it.

When I was planning my trip to China, this was probably the place I was most excited to visit—and somehow, it still exceeded my expectations.

After visiting, there’s no doubt in my mind that this place deserves every bit of its popularity. Even after travelling to 57 countries, it’s an experience that has stayed with me and one I’ll remember for a very long time.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit some incredible spas around the world, and while many of them were beautiful, none offered quite the same experience as this one. It wasn’t just the stunning facilities that impressed me—it was the whole concept. Spending 24 hours relaxing, eating, sleeping and watching local people enjoy the spa as part of their everyday lives made it feel like so much more than a typical spa day.

Add to that the outstanding service and the incredible value for money, and it’s easy to see why this place has become so popular online.

If you’re even remotely fond of spas, don’t miss the chance to experience it during your trip to Chengdu. I genuinely think it has the potential to become one of the highlights of your visit.
